Florencia Guerberof
FOUNDER
Florencia Guerberof is a dancer and visual artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina, based in London, UK.
Having trained extensively in Japanese Butoh and other forms of Oriental theatre, she creates a physical language that draws on a force emanating from her own presence in dialogue with the unseen.
In 2007, Florencia was awarded a Scottish Arts Council Grant, which enabled her to travel to Japan to study Butoh at Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio and other schools.
Her first performance collaboration was with the London Improvisers Orchestra at Café Oto in 2010. In 2011, her dance theatre piece My Hometown Is in My Shoes was showcased at the Fresh from the Oven Festival, curated by Yael Karavan in Brighton, and at The Blue Elephant Theatre in London. That same year, she performed at Victoria House and Siobhan Davies under the direction of Marie Gabrielle Rotie.
In 2014, Donald Hutera invited her to present her dance solo Thunder Comes Rushing Forth from the Earth Again at the Golive Dance and Performance Festival.
Her international appearances include Danse Elargie Dance Festival at Théâtre de la Ville and Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris (2012), the Asian Film Festival at Haus der Kulturen in Berlin (2013).
Florencia founded Asian Performing Arts UK in London in 2012, with the support of the Sasakawa Foundation, the Japan Society, and Japan 400th. This initiative later evolved into El Secreto de la Flor. Her Butoh Research Project has been hosted at SOAS University, RADA, and LABAN, featuring guest Japanese artists such as Sankai Juku Company and Tadashi Endo.
She is a visiting artist and choreographer at East 15 Acting School, contributing to the BA in World Performance program since 2013. Florencia holds a Master’s Degree in Buddhist Studies from The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. Currently, she is researching the dance form from her homeland, Argentine tango. She lives and works in London.
