Illness reaches its crisis in a dissolving sweat (2022)

In the summer of 2022 I created a new performance. I contracted Covid in the process. I spent seven days feeling extremely weak and drained but I continue moving. Through angst and nausea, I danced an imaginary purge in a soundscape of life force pulsations.

During the making of the work I was confronted with a state of crisis, being caught up in-between the desire to move and not being able to. By the last rehearsal my energy was fully restored through a liberating and cathartic sweat.

Dissolving sweat Part Two (2023)

This new dance piece is an extension of “Illness reaches its crisis in a dissolving sweat”(Part One). It includes myself and two senior female dancers dancing in a trio. A twenty year gap between the dancers represents past, present and future.

The work has evolved and the theme of the struggling body has been extended to the cycle of nature and different stages in life .

The choreography originates from the mouth and the movements are prompted by gagging out of sickness in a soundscape of heartbeats and anxiety but it goes on further connecting pulsations and spasms to the orgasm. In a blink choreography shifts from discomfort to pleasure, from repulsive to sexy. This new piece explores life urgency in the face of crisis, sexuality and desire at different stages in life with a special mention to the aging body. Dance is viewed as an expression of desire that transcends the pain of existence.
